DIY LAVENDER BATH BOMB

Happy hump day!  Did you make it through the day?!  Are you pouring yourself a big glass of wine?! Gosh, this week is seriously going by soooo fast!  It is seriously going to be the weekend and that is awesome, totally not upset about it!  So one of the more frequent questions I get from my brides is about the etiquette of gift giving.  We have planned their entire day down to all the pretty little details, so there is nothing left but to sit back on your wedding day, drink a mimosa and to take it all in.  But then they freak out because they have all their best friends standing by their sides on the best day of their life, they have given so much (emotionally and financially) and you have nothing besides your words to show your appreciation.  Well what I tell my brides is make sure the gift means something!  Don’t just throw a bunch of odds and ends together and say “here you go”.  Less is more and they will totally appreciate it more than getting a koozy stuffed with lotion and a lollipop.

Sooooo the talented Laurenda Marie Photography and I put together the best bridesmaid, mother and grandmother gift. Ok, ok we may be a little biased because we put it together, but it is seriously the bomb.com and I really want everything that is in it.

This gift box is going to be broken down into 4 blog posts.  The first…drum roll, please…is a lavender bath bomb.  The women in your life are seriously going to love the heck out of you because A)it seems delicious and B) you have just given them an excuse to pamper themselves!  Oh and sssshhhhhh, they are super easy to make…I won’t tell anyone if you don’t!.

So after you scroll through the gorgeous photos taken by Laurenda Marie Photography…go buy the ingredients and make some for yourself, because you need to try the product out before you gift it.  Am I right…or am I right?!

Supplies

  • 1/2 cup citric acid (Get it here)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil (I used this)
  • tablespoon coconut oil
  • teaspoon of water Note: be careful not to add too much water or you’ll ruin your bath bombs!
  • bath bomb mold (I used these, they work just as good and are half the price!)
  • large mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • blue and red food coloring

Directions

Mix solid ingredients.  Then melt coconut oil in microwave for 1 minute, melt times may vary (I used solid coconut oil instead of liquid as I thought it helped keep its form when hardened).  Add coconut oil and water to dry ingredients, mix thoroughly.  I found it easier to mix with my hands at the end.  Mix in blue and red food coloring to get desired shade of purple.

Fill each side of the mold, making sure to pack firmly and adding extra of the mixture so that the two molds are able to stick together.  Press the two sides together firmly.  Allow mold to set for a few minutes, slowly pull each side off.
